introductio n: gestational diabetes is a medical condition that can lead to adverse outcomes of pregnancy. in this regard, the best way to reduce symptoms in patients, is to educate. this study was to determine the effect of face to face training and booklet on the consequences of maternal and fetal - neonatal diabetes in pregnancy. method : the study is randomized controlled clinical trial in which 126 patients with gestational diabetes. they placed in two intervention groups and one control group. the first intervention group, received face to face training. the second intervention group received a training booklet and control groups received the hospital routine. then, mothers were telephoned and record sheet completed. in this study, fisher's exact test and chi-square and, anova and kruskal wallis were used. findings : among the studied consequences, the number of maternal readmission for gestational diabetes(p= 0/002), change the treatment from diet to insulin therapy(p=0/032), increasing doses of insulin(p=0/019), neonatal apgar score in fifth minutes(p= 0/049), jaundice during the first week(p=0/027), there was significant difference between intervention groups and control group, but among other outcomes in three groups, there was no statistically significant difference . conclusion : training in different ways is effective in patients with gestational diabetes that can increase the health of mothers and children. it also leads to lower costs of hospital due to fewer readmission.
